Protect your vault file, your password, and your Vault Recovery File
Your vault opens with your vault file on your device and your vault password. Local Legacy Vault does not store your password and cannot reset it or recover your vault for you.
For a fuller explanation of how that works, see Security.
When you set up the app, create and store your Vault Recovery File (and any recovery words the app shows) in a safe place that is not only on the same computer as the vault. Paper in a safe, a safety deposit box, or another offline method you trust is appropriate.
If you forget your vault password, this material is what can help you regain access. If you lose both the vault file and backups, or you lose the password with no recovery path, the data cannot be restored by us or anyone else.
Keep copies of your vault data on separate storage you control, such as an external drive or another secure location. Use the in-app tools under Settings, on the Tools tab, for export and backup options that match your platform.

If you are locked out or unsure what to do next, use Support or email support@locallegacyvault.com. We can help with licensing and general guidance, but we cannot bypass your encryption or recover a lost password without your Vault Recovery File and procedures the app provides.
