Recovery and Backup

Protect your vault file, your password, and your Vault Recovery File

How Vault Access Works

Your vault is protected by your vault password and stored locally on your device.

Local Legacy Vault does not store your vault password and cannot reset or recover it for you.

That is why it is important to keep:

  • a backup copy of your vault file
  • your vault password instructions
  • your Vault Recovery File

Each should be kept somewhere safe and separate from your primary computer.

Your Vault Recovery File is created during setup and should be stored safely offline.

Keep it somewhere separate from your computer, along with any recovery information the app gives you.

The Vault Recovery File is not the same as your regular vault backup. It supports recovery if you need help regaining access.

Backups

A backup is a copy of your vault data.

Backups help protect you if your computer is lost, damaged, replaced, or reset.

Use the backup or export tools inside the app:

Settings → Tools

Store at least one recent backup somewhere safe and separate from your computer.

If You Need Help

Support can help with licensing, installation, general guidance, and recovery steps.

Local Legacy Vault cannot bypass your vault password or unlock your encrypted vault for you.
